Creating A Paint Wash and Stencil Design On A Furniture Makeover With Dixie Belle Paint Company Products

So I picked up this little filing cabinet at the thrift store a couple of months back because I thought it could be used as a side table or nightstand because it had these great deep (obviously) drawers. It just needed a new and more modern look as it was an orangey-pine color. See below for a no fuss step by step process. 🙂

We started by sanding the whole piece down. My hubby was kind enough to strip the drawers for me too. We cleaned it using Dixie Belle’s White Lightning. Next, it got a coat of Slick Stick to ensure good adhesion of our paint. I painted the cabinet in Savannah Mist, a great neutral color, from Dixie Belle in their Chalk Mineral line. I then dressed it up a little with a mylar stencil from DB called Victorian Damask. I used Cotton, a bright white, to lighten the whole look. This definitely made the overall piece more feminine and attractive (IMO). Because I wanted to make the whole piece look worn, I washed it using a whitewash all over. I also stenciled the sides of the drawers with Cozy Sweater (also from DB) and then lined the drawers with a paper I picked up a few years ago from Hobby Lobby. You can watch a video of the process here on my YouTube channel. Please be sure like and subscribe. Hit the bell for notifications to be notified when we post.
