DIY Fall Decor

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! I’m sure I’m not alone here…. Cooler temperatures, gorgeous foliage, family time spent around the holidays and lots of great decorations and delicious treats to enjoy. If your house is anything like mine, you get a late start on fall decorations due to having to decorate for Halloween (our favorite non-holiday holiday) first. Side note… My now 11 year old used to scared to death of Halloween decorations so we had to keep it PG rated but now he’s all like the more gore, the better.

Once Halloween passes, we pull out the fall decorations. We like to DIY around here for three reasons.

One: it’s more fun.

Two: it gives us an excuse to hang out together.

And three: it’s cheaper.

Some of our favorite decorations are painted wood pumpkins that my hubby builds, various porch signs and wall signs that we make with our vinyl cutter, and now we’ve added painted plastic pumpkins to the list. In this post, I’m gonna show you how I did these super cute pumpkins I got from Amazon.

List of Supplies:

Start by putting one or two coats of paint on your pumpkins in colors of choice. I used Latte, Juniper, and Cashmere from the new Suzanne’s Fall Colors from Dixie Belle Paint Company. These pumpkins weren’t slick so I just applied right on the pumpkins with no prep work. If you get pumpkins that are slick to touch, apply a quick coat of Slick Stick to help your pain adhere.

Once your paint dries, apply your Mod Podge or gold leaf adhesive over it. Work in small sections as it dries rather quickly. Place your gold leaf over top of the adhesive and press down. If you have a lot of pieces sticking up or have wrinkles in your leafing, use another clean artist paint brush to smooth out the gold leaf and help it to lie flat. Allow to dry.

That’s it. Super easy and fast way to add your own DIY decor to your fireplace mantle, entryway table, coffee table etc. And the best part is, you get to brag that YOU made it!

Thanks so much for visiting my site. You can watch a quick video of the process here.
