Budget Friendly Bathroom Makeover Part 1

Hey everyone! It’s Tyler, back again to show you how to do a bathroom makeover on a budget. For this project, we were helping a friend get a mountain cottage ready to rent as an airbnb. The whole house needed an overhaul and they started the project themselves by doing lots of demo. They called us to help get it pretty. Lol.

For the hallway bathroom, they decided to leave the existing cabinets, countertop (with built in sink) and bathtub. Here are some before photos.

Since I love painting furniture, the cabinets were an easy fix for me. It never ceases to amaze me how much difference paint can make in a room or on a project in general. Because the bathroom already had this super cute tile floor, we just needed some paint for the walls, some paint for the cabinet and some new, fresh decor.

I started on the cabinets first since I had to do a lot of sanding to them. I used my SurfPrep sander to get in the detailed areas as it flexes and gets hard to reach places with ease. For the flat surfaces, I used a Dewalt orbital sander. The cabinets were a beautiful oak underneath the years of paint and gunk and I almost thought about leaving them natural because the color was so pretty. But, that floor was asking for some color. So who was I to argue. Once sanded and clean, I painted them in 2 coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in the color Vintage Duck Egg. It’s the perfect farmhouse/cottage/French Country shade of blue-green and was just what we needed to highlight the cute tile floors. I sealed them for protection in Clear Coat by Dixie Belle for a lovely matte sheen. I changed out the old wooden knob hardware for these more modern black metal ones that I ordered from Amazon. And here is what they looked like when done.
