I was lucky enough to be sent the Pallet Wood rice paper to try out and had the perfect piece for it.
I recently picked up this antique tiger oak lowboy from a little antique shop.

You can’t tell it in the distant photo but it was in pretty rough shape. You know the kind…. circa early 1900’s with what seems like a turpentine finish on it. Thick with lots of drips and runs. I don’t know what they used to stain and seal their wood furniture with back then but boy is it hard to remove! I chose to strip the finish from the drawers and bleach them to get a lighter base to start with. My original plan was to paint the frame black and leave the drawers natural after bleaching but once I got a look at this pallet wood decoupage paper and saw that it fit almost perfectly on the side panels of this lowboy… I changed my plan.just look at pretty this Pallet Wood design is

I stuck with the black frame idea and painted this piece in Dixie Belle’s new Silk All In One Paint in a color called Anchor. It has quickly become my favorite black paint!
Anywho… after applying two coats of Anchor Silk Paint, I applied one coat of Silk paint in a color called
Endless Shore to the inset panels. The reason I did this was to keep that panel light so it didn’t change the overall color of the decoupage paper like it would if I put it on a black background.

Next, it was time for the fun part. The paper! I used Dixie Belle Clear Coat as my adhesive medium. After brushing it on, you simply apply your paper, smooth out any wrinkles, reapply clear coat and you’re done. Tah dah!
After adding the paper, I decided to go ahead and stain my drawers to coordinate. I used a custom mix of stain to get the color to match the darker part of my decoupage paper.

Here’s a look at it all finished up.
